The Whispers

Image
Today being another Saturday I think it is time for a Scary Story Saturday. The story I plan to review is one that I can relate to in a sense, but I cannot relate to the experience. I hope no other person can because some scary stuff went down. The story’s link will be posted at the bottom of the page but here is the story: This is a story I do not often tell. I promise, sincerely, that this has scarred me for life and although I have looked into psychological explanations for what I heard and natural explanations for what occurred, they remain unsatisfactory. When I was a child, I was scared of the dark. I swore to my mother I heard voices in it. They were not evil, but they were not familiar and so they scared me. It was not uncommon in the middle of the night for me to wake up and hear “whispers” as I would call them when asking my mom. She figured they were just “bumps in the night” and typical kids nightmare material. I tried often to explain to her that it was more t...

Katch 'em Kill 'em

Today being another Thursday I think it is once again time for a throwback. So, being a movie review blog being non bias plays a key role. In this type of blog, I have to create reviews based on the sole quality of a film. All though this type of writing is really my goal, this posting while definitely have bias present. I just wanted to give a warning before getting into a review. The reason this may show that I am leaning towards positive reviews on this film is because it is my favorite horror film ever! This movie may be older, and may not be the coolest, but to me, it is one of the best horror films out there. Okay, so you are probably wondering what movie that I am pretty much raving about. This movie would be Amityville Horror, made in 2005, following a string of Amityville films created after the book was published in 1977. The film follows George Lutz (Ryan Reynolds) and his wife, Kathy (Melissa George), when they find a beautiful new house in the small town of Amityville...

Another Ground Hog Day

So, since yesterday was my actual birthday I felt it was the perfect day to review Happy Death Day. Luckily, I didn't have to keep reliving yesterday or get murdered. Though this was not really what I would call a horror movie it was still one of the best movies I’ve seen recently. Although this movie is technically not horror I felt, since I saw it, deserves a review. This movie follows Tree Gelbman who is a blissfully self-centred collegian who wakes up on her birthday in the bed of a student named Carter. As the morning goes on, Tree gets the eerie feeling that she's experienced the events of this day before. When a masked killer suddenly takes her life in a brutal attack, she once again magically wakes up in Carter's dorm room unharmed. Now, the frightened young woman must relive the same day over and over until she figures out who murdered her. I have noticed that the plot of living the same day over and over again is making a comeback. The film If I Fall is ano...

Red Stare Pale Skin

So, if you recall from my first post I mentioned I will also be reviewing scary stories. Not just movies and their trailers. Today is my first Scary Story Sunday, which is when I will be posting reviews of horror stories. Today I will be reviewing one o f my favorites so more of you become familiar with this bone-chilling tale. The story is known by multiple names: The Keyhole, White with Red, The Angry Ghost in Room 113. Prior to my review, I will post the story so you can read it, then my review right after. There are so many version of this story that it is hard to review just one, but I'm going to tell you the version that I heard. Then I will post links to different version so you can see where the tale developed from. It was a dark and stormy night when a distant traveller was passing through an unfamiliar town. Worried for his safety he knew he had to find a place to stay the night. Out of the fog, he saw the red fluorescent lights of a motel sign. Thankfull...

Heads will roll!

Since it’s Thursday I think it’s time for a throwback. Sleepy Hollow from 1999 directed by Tim Burton is Set in 1799, "Sleepy Hollow" is based on Washington Irving's classic tale "The Legend of Sleepy Hollow." Faithful to the dreamy custom-bound world that Irving paints in his story, the film mixes horror, fantasy and romance and features an extraordinary cast of characters that dabble in the supernatural. This movie is personally one of my all time favorites, it’s a classic that still keeps me on the edge of my seat. Although it is not the most terrifying horror movies it keeps an audience captivated throughout its entirety. We follow a city doctor who has been summoned to the small town of Sleepy Hollow to help discover the killer that is haunting the town. I say haunting instead of tormenting because this killer is from beyond the grave. This killer is ruthless and will kill whoever tries to mess with him. This doctor, Ichabod Crane, does not realize ...

Mother?

Image
Mother! A movie that has been said to be a must-see thriller. This movie is by no doubt a thriller but it is in no way a must see movie. From filmmaker Darren Aronofsky the film is about a couple's relationship that is tested when uninvited guests arrive at their home, disrupting their tranquil existence. Mother! stars Jennifer Lawrence, Javier Bardem, Ed Harris and Michelle Pfeiffer in this riveting psychological thriller about love, devotion and sacrifice. This main synopsis of the movie could not get the story anymore wrong. What the synopsis should say is, A story about a psychotic writer and his devoted wife who try to live in peace but are disturbed by overly devoted fans and everything turns into hell. I’ve never seen a movie so all over the place, there was no storyline to follow. It was like the writers had five different ideas for a movie and decided to put them all together. Pretty sure the only thing I liked, except the cinematography, was the ending: because it w...

What could IT be?

Image
IT...a movie most know for it’s horrifying clown. The movie that most likely generated the case of coulrophobia also known as the phobia of clowns. But how horrific is this movie really? The 2017 remake of the original film from 1990 was heavily amped up. Just the movie posters are enough to scare people away or draw them in for more horror. It was ready to be the year’s scariest film. From the menacing clown to the creepy concept this reboot had so much potential that it sadly did not live up to. It takes place in the small town of Derry but what makes this town different? The fact that children are constantly disappearing. The constant of each disappearance each kid came into contact with a clown. As the story progresses the five main characters in the movie come to the realization that this clown is the reason kids are vanishing, but that’s not all IT can do. IT has the ability to morph itself into whatever scares you the most. That is how it got the name of IT, since it was ...
