Mother?

Mother! A movie that has been said to be a must-see thriller. This movie is by no doubt a thriller but it is in no way a must see movie. From filmmaker Darren Aronofsky the film is about a couple's relationship that is tested when uninvited guests arrive at their home, disrupting their tranquil existence. Mother! stars Jennifer Lawrence, Javier Bardem, Ed Harris and Michelle Pfeiffer in this riveting psychological thriller about love, devotion and sacrifice. This main synopsis of the movie could not get the story anymore wrong. What the synopsis should say is, A story about a psychotic writer and his devoted wife who try to live in peace but are disturbed by overly devoted fans and everything turns into hell. I’ve never seen a movie so all over the place, there was no storyline to follow. It was like the writers had five different ideas for a movie and decided to put them all together. Pretty sure the only thing I liked, except the cinematography, was the ending: because it was over. Even the title of the movie was just wrong, why was it called mother? It had nothing to do with anything motherly, except like five minutes nearing the end of the film.
There aren’t many words I could use to describe the movie except bizarre, weird, odd, and gruesome. That’s right it was gruesome who would have thought a movie called mother had scenes that makes more sensitive people shut their eyes. There was more blood and guts in this movie than I would’ve expected. The amount of times Jennifer Lawrence cried I’m pretty sure those tears weren’t fake. She was probably thinking, “Why the hell did I agree to do this movie? I’m in a movie that I don’t even know what the story is. Just get me out of this”. Okay, she may not have been thinking that because the reasons her character cried so much were definitely reasonable. I mean I would cry too if my husband basically let his cult of fans eat my baby. *SPOILER ALERT*

I can’t even say that this movie had potential to be good because there was no main storyline. It could’ve been about any number of things because new storylines were being introduced left and right. Then, people you expect to have been important just left the movie and they never return. Also, for a movie under the genre of horror it wasn’t scary. It maybe had one or two jump scares but nothing about it was scary. Suspenseful yes, dramatic maybe, scary definitely not. So, overall if you want to see this movie to prove me wrong, go for it. I’m pretty sure you will have the same exact opinion. The only thing that will scare you about this movie is that you paid eleven bucks to see it.
