Katch 'em Kill 'em

Today being another Thursday I think it is once again time for a throwback. So, being a movie review blog being non bias plays a key role. In this type of blog, I have to create reviews based on the sole quality of a film. All though this type of writing is really my goal, this posting while definitely have bias present. I just wanted to give a warning before getting into a review. The reason this may show that I am leaning towards positive reviews on this film is because it is my favorite horror film ever! This movie may be older, and may not be the coolest, but to me, it is one of the best horror films out there. Okay, so you are probably wondering what movie that I am pretty much raving about. This movie would be Amityville Horror, made in 2005, following a string of Amityville films created after the book was published in 1977. The film follows George Lutz (Ryan Reynolds) and his wife, Kathy (Melissa George), when they find a beautiful new house in the small town of Amityville, N.Y., they think the place is too good to be true. After they move in with their kids, they find out the cheap price tag is thanks to the house's sordid history: The former tenant murdered his family after supposedly being possessed by the devil.

A horror film is always ten times scarier when it is based off a true story. Then it makes the fear of the movie more real. Most people who are frightened by scary movies are able to help themselves calm down by saying, “it is just a movie”. In this movie’s case, that phrase would not help because it actually happened. Could you imagine being possessed by a devil that makes you want to kill your own family? I know I couldn't. This film is really able to truly capture that character’s transition from man into monster. Though the reviews of this movie are not the best it is because I will admit, this is not the most amazing horror film out there. To some, it may be seen as boring, but in my mind that it what makes it creepy. It builds suspense, instead of just giving everything away all at once. Plus it is a true story that tried to follow the actual events as best as it could. So, I appreciate that they really wanted to tell the story instead of change everything to make a perfect movie. I am probably not making this film sound that amazing, but it really is worth seeing. Sure the realism of the ghosts isn’t amazing, but wait until you see little Jodie. What is so special about her you may ask...well you just have to watch to find out. I’ll just give you a small taste of what she adds to the movie:

Enough said.

One last thing, if you are looking for a nice house in New York for $850,000 the horror house is for sale. If you don’t believe the story buy the house and prove everyone wrong. If things turn out to be true remember this phrase: Katch ‘em Kill ‘em.

  2. Ok so I'm a MAJOR weenie whenever it comes to naything scary - but I am a history geek so I might just check this one out --- LOVE the pic of the little girl getting dragged through the ceiling, really sets the setting, but really - I Legitimately like it I wanna see some more detail of the morbid history, but I guess that's for me to find out!

  3. I have never seen this movie before but I could relate to many things in the blog such as saying "it is just a movie" to make myself feel better after watching it, but usually I realize that the movie was from a true story and I freak out! I like that you added a picture of one of the scenes from the movie. It adds more suspense to the blog itself and also makes people want to go and watch the movie. Even though watching scary movies is not really my favorite thing and the trailer would probably freak me out, I still would love to see a trailer of this movie and think that it would add more suspense to the blog. I also like that you mentioned that the house is on sale and you even added the price!

  4. I really liked how you added the phrase that this was an actual event that happened, and I think for the viewers, it adds an even more horrific element. Although I don’t really watch horror movies, you got me pretty curious about this one...
Hope I don’t end up hiding underneath my bed sheets 👻😵
